Opening this Week

Paranormal Activity 4

Like the other movies in the series, Paranormal Activity 4 is shot as if it were a documentary. The film’s teenage protagonist Alex (Kathryn Newton) fears Robbie (Brady Allen), an odd neighborhood kid who often sneaks into her tree house, has brought an evil spirit into her home. Robbie is staying with Alex and her family for a few days because his mother has been taken to the hospital. Robbie befriends Alex’s brother Wyatt (Aiden Lovekamp) but starts telling him strange secrets. When Alex starts hearing weird noises and seeing unusual things happen around the house, she has her boyfriend Ben (Matt Shively) set up her laptop so that it will tape everything that happens while she’s asleep. Alex’s parents don’t believe her when she tells them the house is haunted and she doesn’t end up with any convincing footage on her laptop to convince them that some kind of demon has invaded their home. Despite offering a few cheap thrills, the film doesn't have any real surprises and directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who teamed up together on Paranormal Activity 3, have such a bad sense of timing, they don't make all the wait worthwhile.
