Adam Rich
Streetlight Smile (Love Muffin)
Earlier this year, local singer-multi-instrumentalist Adam Rich marked the 20-year anniversary of the release of his full-length debut Virgin Freak, a rough-sounding collection of bluesy tunes, with a special reissue. The set even included "Weaving," a song from Rich's 1993 EP Leave My Fish Alone. That's quite a legacy that Rich, a minor player on the local scene, has left behind, and it serves as a real testament to his stamina. Now, Rich, who just turned 40, has returned with an album of tunes he wrote over a three-year period. It opens with the driving "Magical Feet Pear Groove," one of three instrumentals on the disc. Tunes such as "Wait Till Next Year," "Government Bailout" and "Labor Day" have a blues feel to them but are so rowdy and irreverent that they never settle for traditional time signatures, suggesting that, despite his love for the blues, Rich is an indie rocker at heart.
