No shirt, no guitar, no problem -- as long as you've got a kick-ass stage name.
The nation’s best phantom shredders will take the stage in a couple weeks for the
U.S. Air Guitar Championship, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Cleveland champ Garth “Chuck Mung” Donald. Mung’s one of 15 regional winners who’ll be flown to N.Y.C. for the August 16 finals.
Mung’s monster riffs on some metal song we never heard of killed at the local contest a couple months back, but the competition at the House of Blues that night wasn’t exactly stiff: he was up against an inexperienced batch of guitar-less foes, including a guy who reenacted Marty McFly’s
immortal rendition of “Johnny B. Good,” and some dude who stumbled out of the HOB kitchen and onto the stage.
In New York, Donald will face some fierce competition – including the excellently named Erin “McNallica” McNally, Dave “Derek-Not-So-Smalls” Weissman, and Alex “Ricky Stinkyfingers” Forbes. Still, our money’s on L.A.’s Fatima “Rockness Fucking Monster” Hoang. No way a dude with a moniker like that can lose. --
