Two years ago at House of Blues, Brit alt-rockers the Cult opened their two-hour set by playing their 1987 album Electric in its entirety. It’s the band’s breakthrough album and the one that signified a musical shift from straight-up Goth rock to a compelling blues-metal hybrid. With that bit of nostalgia behind it, the group has just announced tour dates in support of the forthcoming new studio album, Hidden City, due out Feb. 5.
The tour includes a stop at Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park on March 29. The Cult’s first album in three years and its 10th studio album, Hidden City represents the third and final part of their critically acclaimed trilogy that includes 2007’s Born Into This and 2012’s Choice of Weapon.
“I find today’s gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it’s a new phenomenon,” says singer Ian Astbury in a press release announcing the tour. “My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart.”
Reserved tickets, which cost $50, $38.50 and $32.50, go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday. They can be purchased at the venue box office, at Ticketmaster.com, at Ticketmaster outlets or by phone (800-745-3000).
