Cleveland hardcore band American Werewolves has signed with Atlanta punk label Warbird Entertainment to release its next two albums. The first, Wanderers Forever, is set for a late-spring release.
The disc will be the band’s fourth studio album since 2003. They also released 2008’s They Died Crawling anthology and last year’s Kings of the Clevo Streets mixtape, which sold out a pressing of 300 copies via online outlet Interpunk.
“We saw an ad that Warbird had in a magazine,” explains frontman Trevor Moment. “It looked cool, so we sent them the mixtape. And I guess that's it. More importantly, the guy that runs the label is a fan of AW and not some scumbag dude who is gonna try to rip us off.”
The label’s roster includes St. Louis’ Dead City Dregs and Holland’s Harbour 81.
The group split with drummer Nate Jochum. The new lineup features replacement drummer Kris Monroe (from the Sign Offs) and scene regulars Samoan Rob (Crowd Deterrent) and Cory Klein on guitars. Longtime bassist Brendan Moore still aboard.
The new album will include six songs from the mixtape. The group recorded with Cleveland’s go-to punk producer Dave Piatek (Crowd Deterrent, Storm King). The band’s ’50s rock influences are still present, but they’re moving toward the background.
“This is the best sounding AW recording by far,” says Moment. “This is the most violent AW record yet. Lots of early hardcore and tons of Oi! Influence, more of a street sound.” —D.X. Ferris
