Analog's solo debut, Victims of Reality, pairs him up with yet another wunderkind, 19-year-old Werdperfect of the East Side's underground, party-moving Anti-Biterz crew. The DJ works with small beats and dark samples, playing the role of a soulful backing band. Word moves in a conscious direction, putting tracks like SI's "Cup Fulla Nasty" behind him. Musically and lyrically, the EP is comparable to the work of indie-rap stars like Atmosphere, who construct soulful tales of good times that quickly turn bad. In "Just Music," Analog rhymes: "I see the world for what it is/My virtue and my curse/When I sleep, it's in my dreams/It's only getting worse." At this rate, let's hope things don't get better.
