This year’s event will be held on July 13 and July 14 at the Bop Stop and Brothers Lounge, respectively.
The event concert serves as a fundraiser for the Gathering Place, a cancer support center with locations in Beachwood and Westlake. The Gathering Place, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, provides free programs and services for individuals and families coping with a cancer diagnosis.
Rich launched the event ten years ago in the effort to put together his own version of Undercurrents, a popular yearly music showcase that had ceased to exist after a successful run in the '80s and '90s.
The Gathering Place became involved in 2012 when Rich wanted to reach out to a cancer charity after his cousin died from cancer. He added a nightly raffle and recruited several local businesses to donate prizes. Over the years, bands also started donating their pay. Last year, LoveMuffinPalooza became a full-blown benefit concert; to date, it’s raised more than $8000.
The July 13 lineup features Tracy Marie, Tom Adams, XLT 1000, the Village Bicycle and Birdog Cats. The event starts at 8 p.m., and local musician Shawn Brewster will serve as the MC.
Acts slated to play on July 14 include Ray Flanagan, David Smeltz & the Smeltztones, the Tie Downs, Cary & the Dissidents and MellaDramatics. Doors open at 2 p.m., and the event begins at 3 p.m. Todd Meany and Jessica Dill from Fox 8 News will serve as the MCs.
Admission to each event is $10.
