Contemporary R&B crooner Avant is now five albums deep into the successful singing career he launched after his 1995 graduation from the Cleveland School of the Arts, following in the smooth, romantic footsteps of fellow Clevelander, the late Gerald Levert.

Avant's latest self-titled record, his first on Capitol, hit the streets in December and features his version of Christopher Cross’ 1980 easy-listening hit “Sailing,” which was released last month as the CD’s second single.

It’s now being offered as a digital EP, along with three tracks that haven’t been previously released in the U.S.: “Yes,” “You Are More” and “Provocative.” The EP can be downloaded exclusively at iTunes.

Currently, Avant, who majored in theater at CSA, is on the road with the Je’Caryous Johnson play Love Overboard, a Tyler Perry-style musical about fun-loving men and overly ambitious and/or religious women, and the compromises they make to pair off.

Avant plays one of the footloose men determined to have a good time on the cruise at the center of the play. —Anastasia Pantsios
