Band of the Week: Bethesda

Meet the Band: Shanna Delaney (vocals, tambourine); Eric Ling (rhythm guitar); Cass Jewel (drums); Dan Corby (bass); Alan Walker (lead guitar); Estee Beasley (violin/viola, keys)

a cool collaboration: When the indie rock band decided it wanted to release a new single, it put out a call to local artistst. "We wanted to have a local artist design the poster with a download card," says guitarist Eric Ling. "It spiraled out of control from there."

taking it to the gallery: When it came time to host a release party for the poster/single, the band partnered with the local promotions company and record label Cellar Door to collaborate with local artists who'll feature paintings and videos they have created in connection with the songs for the June 19 event at the Museum of Contemporary Art. "We thought, 'If we're going to make this work, we can't have them show their art in a rock venue,'" says Ling. "We wanted to show art in an art venue. The people at the Museum of Contemporary Art were all for it. We have 10 artists, including a dance troupe. It will be a very eclectic night. We thought it would be unique to work together and help artists perform in front of a crowd."

Why You Should Hear them: The band recorded the two new songs — "Dissolve" and "Wild Winter" — locally with Dave Douglas at his Danger House studio. "It was our first time working with him," says Ling. "We're pleased with the product. They're two different takes on the same idea. We're thinking about what satisfies in life and has staying power. 'Wild Winter' is more folky and poppy, and 'Dissolve' has a big, Florence and the Machine sound to do it." Both songs showcase Shanna Delaney's powerful voice. The band is currently working with new band members and doesn't have a permanent drummer. "We have quite a few songs in the queue but we don't have a full band to write them," says Ling. "We don't know what the next step is. Hopefully we can put out a full-length in the near future."

Where You Can Hear them:
