Band of the Week: Revolution Brass Band

Meet the Band: Jacob Wynne (trumpet), Kris "Skinnyk" Morron (trombone), Dan Wenninger (tenor saxophone), Steve Zombory (alto saxophone), David Kasper (baritone saxophone), Cutty (sousaphone, the root), Tim Lane (drums), Matt Hadaway (percussion)

No Rehearsal Required: Formed in 2010 by trumpet player Jacob Wynne and the late John Kuegeler, the band didn't even rehearse before its first gig. "We gathered some guys and had this gig at Edison's Pub in Tremont. Our first rehearsal was a gig at Edison's."

Influences: As much as the band evokes New Orleans jazz, members embrace a wider range of music. "The goal has been to go a little farther than that [New Orleans] music," says Wynne, adding that the Rebirth Brass Band is an influence. "We do some second line New Orleans stuff. The band has evolved into doing funk, Afrobeat and jazz. We always have a spot in our hearts for the second line."

The Live Show: The band is "mobile," as Wynne puts it. Last year, it played outdoor gigs as part of Parade the Circle and the Pull event that took place at Spaces. "We started the thing off and they hired us two other times to be along the route and play and get people pumped up," says Wynne when asked about playing the event.

Why You Should Hear Them: The group has released recordings of a few live shows but the new self-titled album is its first proper studio release. "It was great," says Wynne when asked about the recording process. The band recorded at Bad Racket Studios in two days.

Where You Can Hear Them:
