Probably no issue is dominating public discussion now more than health care — well, other than South Carolina governor Mark Sanford’s wacky adventures. Ultimately, the health-care discussion will have a much greater impact on our lives.
Cleveland-based folk singer Deborah Van Kleef, known for her ’60s-style topical songwriting, has weighed in with her song “Talking Health Care.”
The track, which appeared on her debut CD, Work in Progress, last year, is in the tradition of such “talking blues” as Bob Dylan’s 1963 “Talkin’ World War III Blues” and Phil Ochs’ 1964 “Talkin’ Vietnam” and “Talkin’ Cuban Crisis.”
Kleef is now looking to contribute to peoples’ awareness on the subject and distribute the song more widely. So she’s filmed a video of herself performing the song which she’s posted online. Check it out above. —Anastasia Pantsios
