1. Bob Dylan, Time Out of Mind
It's an album that generously mixes haunting arrangements with often melancholy and achingly beautiful lyrics. "Not Dark Yet" would be great to listen to on the island.
2. Tom Waits, Mule Variations
"Come on Up to the House" would be a song I'd blast all night long for my little island creatures. I can see turtles marching single file to "Get Behind the Mule."
3. M. Ward, Transistor Radio
M. Ward writes some damn good songs steeped in rural Americana and given new life with his production and vision. "Big Boat" would be a great song for my island.
4. Harry Smith, Anthology of American Folk Music
This anthology spans everything from Dock Boggs to Furry Lewis. And who would want to be without a Dock and something Furry on an island?
5. Patrick Sweany, I Wanna Tell You
I can't find another disc that makes me feel more at home -- down home and homesick at the same time.
