He's not bullet-ridden like 50 Cent, but premier NYC drum & bass DJ Odi did get his musical start in lock-up: When he was nine, Odi's baby-sitter tossed him in a room and left him to his own devices. He found a turntable -- and his calling. By 18, he was cutting his teeth at the world-famous New York City NASA parties. The Brooklyn boy soon produced tracks on Jungle Sky, the first drum & bass label, and has been a longtime participant in New York's renowned Koncrete Jungle nights.
As if that weren't enough, he's also credited with the advent of jump-up and often compared to DJs Aphrodite and Soul Slinger. He is known for diverse track selection, though, including jungle, house, breaks, and hip-hop in his sets. This jungle kingpin flaunts crazy scratching skills and fierce dubplates atop dense rhythms and hyper-syncopated beats. Equipment permitting, he'll even rock it on three decks for the crowd.
