Behaving in a playful manner befitting his clownish attire, Mike Patton refuses to consider his group's material sacred, crooning Technotronic's "Pump Up the Jam" during a gorgeous piano coda ("Epic"), burping while delivering a lengthy tune's poignant payoff ("The Real Thing"), and farting into the microphone as a prelude to a doo-wop ballad/pedophile portrait ("End of the World"). His vocal experiments inject the only hiccups into instrumentally flawless renditions of tracks from 1989's The Real Thing.
Packaged with You Fat Bastards, the video collection Who Cares a Lot? provides a fascinating flipbook of the group's ever-evolving look and sound. The fish from "Epic" and the similar clip for second single "Falling to Pieces" (neon paint, an eyeball inside a palm, fish under duress) recall when videos expressed an aesthetic rather than simply being commercials for individual songs.
