Grand Buffet rap

The last time rap duo Grand Buffet dropped a full-length album, ICP had a major-label deal. The long-delayed, brand-spankin'-new King Vision makes good on the promise of the four EPs they've dropped since. If you're one of the many fans who's helped make "Benjamin Franklin Music" a staple of their hilariously shticky live sets, then the G.B.'s third album won't disappoint: It's a yin-yang of light music and dark ideas, a mash-up of electro-textured '80s analog synths ("The Coolest Dog" sounds like they borrowed a track from their pals in Zombi) and bubbly pop hooks that paints a gritty, Fight Club-esque vision of an underclass at constant war with the illuminati who pour gunk into the waterways and airwaves. The two guerrilla rapper-producers even take new territory in "Casting Shadows," two minutes of pop sprint that'll run your peace of mind ragged. But their set at the Beachland will bring your smile back.
