- We couldn't find a picture of Kristine Jares of Cats on Holiday. So enjoy this pic of a holiday cat
Followers of Cleveland’s ’90s folk-rock/indie-rock scenes, as well as the more recent roots-rock scene, will want to check out a new band called the Gypsy Satellites.
It’s fronted by singer/violinist Kristine Jares, most recently of popular swamp-pop group Cats on Holiday. She also did stints with ’90s bands Jehova Waitresses and Coltrane Wreck.
Jares has assembled something of an all-star cast of players that includes vocalist/guitarist Bill Stone of Paranoid Lovesick, Public Library/World in a Room drummer Eric Everett, Vertigo Men vocalist/guitarist Jim Dimick, and Hayshaker Jones/Jack Fords bassist Pat Christopher.
Although the band played an unpromoted, grease-the-wheels gig at the Phantasy last month, they play their first “real” show, a short set, at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Zeke’s Tavern (8188 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, 440-526-6694).
Their repertoire includes both originals and covers by artists like Jacob Dylan, Kathleen Edwards, Blue Rodeo, Tom Petty, and Neko Case. —Anastasia Pantsios
