Ian McLagan and the Bump Band

With Cold Cold Hearts. Saturday, October 14, at the Beachland Tavern.

Ian McLagan and the Bump Band
Ian McLagan earned his rock and roll stripes as the legendary keyboardist for both the Small Faces and the Faces, before sitting in with such rock icons as Dylan, Springsteen, and the Stones. (He's opening for the Stones later this month.)

While McLagan's own music might not be as well known as that of the guys he's played with, it deserves recognition. Since relocating to Austin in '94, Mac has released several discs of good-time pub rock. His most recent effort, Spiritual Boy, also serves the larger purpose of being a loving tribute to his old Faces/Small Faces mate, the late Ronnie Lane. It features affectionate renditions of such old Lane faves as "Itchycoo Park," "Annie," and "Nowhere to Run." He's backed by his talented Bump Band (featuring in-demand Austin guitarist Scrappy Jud Newcomb and ex-Heart bassist Mark Andes), so expect a spirited evening of fun and ragged rock and roll, with a dash of mod sensibility.
