Singer-guitarist Jack White has been sparring with the Black Keys lately. His claim is that they stole his sound and used it to become the multi-platinum superstars that they now are. That argument might have had more validity were White still slugging it out with the garage blues duo the White Stripes. But since moving on to his solo work, it's apparent he and the Black Keys have very different approaches (and maybe always did). White is more out there. High-pitched yelps and a funky synthesizer riff that almost overwhelms the gritty guitar work punctuate the album's title track. "High-balled Stepper" features frenetic guitar riffs while "Just One Drink" sounds like a honkytonk classic. White's a stellar guitarist, and this album again confirms just how good he is. Be sure to look for the "ultra" vinyl version of the album that features hidden tracks and alternate intros for some of the tunes.
