Set to Go!
is muscle-car punk rock that starts off like a Sweet album played at 45 rpm, and it gets nastier with every single song. Though the band has been playing since 2001, technically this is its full-length debut, if you don't include Set to Go! Live
, which features all the same songs, recorded last year in WRUW's basement. Throughout the 15 cuts here, manic guitar leads and go-go-go drums barrel along, and "Tokyo Takedown" practically leaves tire marks.
The five North Olmsted bandmates do more than play their asses off -- they can also put together a song. Woody Guthrie could have written "Tighten Our Rustbelt," an angry requiem for closed steel mills, deserted factories, and polluted air. Singer Caesar Bolero leads the chant: "Money is in short supply/For rock and roll we live and die." Even without the lyrics, it's music that means something.
