Several years ago,
Jazzanova, a DJ collective based in Berlin, Germany, made its Cleveland debut at
Touch Supper Club (2710 Lorain Ave. 216.631.5200). The place was packed to the gills with Warehouse District hipsters anxious to check out the ensemble’s mixing skills. Jazzanova has returned to town since with less fanfare, but that’s probably because the downtempo scene has subsided some. But the group doesn’t tour much, making its return to Touch this Sunday, November 15, all the more noteworthy. Issued on the jazz imprint Verve, the group’s latest album, last year’s
Of All The Things, is a soulful affair that features collaborations with old school R&B guys like Leon Ware and new school ones like Dwele. Rather than depending so much on samples, the guys recruited an extensive group of musicians to play in the studio. As a result, a tune like “I Can See” sounds like it was cut during Motown’s heyday. And the same goes for the soulful, snappy “Let Me Show Ya” and the somber ballad “Little Bird.” Marc Cotterell starts things off at 8 p.m. —
