When the pandemic shut everything down, singer-songwriter John Hiatt still managed to cut a session at RCA Studio B with Jerry Douglas and Douglas' backing band.
“I was immediately taken back to 1970, when I got to Nashville,” says Hiatt in a press release about Leftover Feelings, his new album with Douglas and Douglas’s band. “You can’t not be aware of the records that were made there . . . Elvis, the Everly Brothers, Waylon Jennings doing ‘Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line.’ But all that history wasn’t intimidating because it’s such a comfortable place to make music.”
A veteran singer-songwriter, Hiatt has seen acts such as Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and scores of others record his songs. He's been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and has received a lifetime achievement in songwriting designation from the Americana Music Association.
Hiatt and Douglas will tour this fall in support of the album. They perform on Nov. 14 at MGM Northfield Park — Center Stage.
