Local Band in Focus

Professor Greenhouse

Meet the Band:

Chris Wallis (guitar/vocals), Andrew Phillips (guitar/vocals), Mark Chesnes (bass/vocals), and Bob Vokac (drums)

Rock the Folkin' Megaphone!

The Kent band marries blues with a little punk to form a classic rock sound "modernized for our era," says Phillips. Throw in a megaphone and some sultry harmonica, and you've got some folksy rock going on there.

All Their Troubles Seemed So Far Away: One of the group's first songs had no lyrics, so Phillips sang "scrambled eggs" over the empty track, just like Paul McCartney did when he wrote "Yesterday." But unlike the Beatles classic, the Professors kept the lyrics and made it the title of their song.

Coming Soon: The band is wrapping up a self-produced EP, which should be all ready to roll by this weekend's show at the Beachland.

Why They Say They Matter:

"Our sound is not something that's been talked about or deliberate," says Wallis. "It's a lot different from what's out there in Northeast Ohio."

Why We Say They Matter:

It's a refreshing blend of folk and rock that doesn't drown in the bluesy vocals or rockier tempos. Plus, they have a song called "Scrambled Eggs."
