Miss Amanda Who? The band's name — which comes from an obscure Rolling Stones song — is all about getting you in the door. "If someone sees the band name on a concert listing or marquee, they're going to think, 'Who is this? A chick? A bunch of androgynous dudes?'" says Turner.
Loose and Boozy: Miss Amanda Jones started in 2006 on the West Side as a "loose and boozy, in-the-pocket rock & roll band," says Turner.
Across East 55th Street: The band lists snakeskin boots, train tracks, and seedy bars among its favorite things. So you shouldn't be surprised to hear that one of their most memorable gigs was at the intersection of East 55th and Broadway. Needless to say, it was a night Slavic Village didn't soon forget.
Why You Should Hear Them: Even though "Miles Away" sounds like early Aerosmith and "Done Me Wrong" channels Thin Lizzy, the band's blustery garage rock maintains a quintessentially Cleveland vibe on 2008's MAJ 1Q and last year's The Cellar Sessions. "We live on her streets and battle her beasts," says Turner.
