Local Indie Rockers Beach Stav Release New Music Video Featuring 'Night of the Living Dead' Footage

The local indie rock band Beach Stav started about six years ago when singer Jon Conley began a solo project. The group appropriately describes its music as "dark glam, freak folk, psychedelic, R&B, rock, punk, ambient, indie, garage."

Now, the band has just released a music video for “Got Strange,” the first track from its forthcoming album.

“I've always written, atmospherically, in a very theatrical/cinematic way and have always used the concepts of soundtracking and accompanying as a loose guideline for writing everything,” says Conley in an email exchange. “There is always a world behind every piece of art. For the video, I was totally surprised to find Night of the Living Dead in the public domain so I used my favorite scene (Barbara finding the music box-maybe one of my favorite film moments ever) as the fitting culmination with the climax of the song. I find a simplistic and fucked up beauty in both the song and scene that fit each other very well for this video. There is a singularity to Barbara's moment, a discovery of something hallowed, haunting and beautiful in a surreal situation, that fit so well.”

He describes the band’s song as “a lush and warped glam number floating over an electronic groove.”

“We've gone heavy on harmonies for the album and have gone deeper lyrically than we have in the past,” he says. “’Everything is Perfect,’ both lyrically and musically, explores the strange shit beneath all surfaces and focuses on using dissonance to complement unity. It’s an interesting way to write an album, focusing intently on both perfection and imperfection, but we're super excited about every song.”
