Mary Lee's Corvette

Mary Lee Korte wrote the Amy Grant hit "Everywhere I Go" back in '85, but first gained attention with her sterling 2002 release of Dylan's Blood on the Tracks, recorded live in its entirety at N.Y.C. institution Arlene's Grocery. Korte followed it up with 700 Miles, which expanded her pop and folk palette with bright arrangements to back her light, easy vocals.

Her latest, Love, Loss, and Lunacy, hints at the influence of her husband, rocker Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, as Korte flashes her rock muscle on tracks such as "Verla" -- which sounds like a Lindsey Buckingham tune -- the chiming power-pop opener "All That Glitters," and the rousing album highlight "Wasting the Sun," which manages to cross Chrissie Hynde's cool rock demeanor with Sheryl Crow's engaging pop instincts. The opener is Ambel, whose varied career includes leading country rockers the Del Lords in the '80s and playing sideman to Steve Earle and Joan Jett.
