Don't cross Miranda Lambert when she plays the House of Blues Thursday. She'll set you on fire.
Country singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert scares us. The 24-year-old Texas cutie smiles as often as she scowls, but you don’t want to piss her off. Her breakthrough single, “Kerosene,” was about catching her boyfriend getting busy with some other girl. But Lambert didn't take a Louisville slugger to any headlights. That's for prissy reality-TV stars. No, she set the cheating bastard and his slutty friend on fire. On her latest album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (she wears the title with pride), she shrugs off on an abusive beau’s punches: “His fist is big, but my gun’s bigger.” Lambert doesn’t take any shit, and that’s why we like her so much. She sings in a twangy drawl that’s as tough as it is sexy. She often boasts about hunting, killing, and skinning her supper. Plus, she’s a sharp songwriter: She not only piles on hooks, her characters have depth. No one else making country music these days gets us this excited. We just wouldn’t want to get too close to her. -- Michael Gallucci Miranda Lambert performs at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 21, at House of Blues, 308 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $32 and $45, available by calling 216-523-2583. For a preview, listen to “Famous in a Small Town” below.
