Friday: Cedar Lee Theatre marks the opening of
The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters today with its very own Donkey Kong contest. The documentary charts the battle between two nerds for the world-record high score on the classic arcade game. At 7 tonight, a bunch of local nerds will engage their thumbs for a heated round of Kong on the Wii (which will be beamed on a ginormous screen for all to see). Whoever scores the biggest numbers in three minutes gets into the 7:30 showing for free, plus all the popcorn he can stuff into his mouth. All contestants snag movie posters.
Saturday: Arsenic and Old Lace,
the Great Lakes Theater Festival’s latest production, is about two old ladies who offer poisoned cocktails to lonely bachelors. They then bury the bodies in their basement. In addition to the pair of murderous gals, there are a couple of crazy guys walking around: One is a botched surgery victim who looks like Frankenstein’s Boris Karloff; the other thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt. Funny stuff. It’s at the
Ohio Theatre.
Sunday: It’s no secret that we adore
Mandy Moore here at the Scene office. We liked her in
A Walk to Remember. She was the best thing about
License to Wed. And her guest turn as Tabitha Vixx on
The Simpsons was funny. (We’re not so thrilled, however, that she dated Zach Braff, who’s even blander than his beloved Shins.)

House of Blues. Look for us with our giant “Marry Me, Mandy” sign. --
