One of the best spots for cheap beer and free music, Lakewood's Green Room, has closed its doors after only a year, due to continuous noise complaints. At a recent Saturday-night show featuring the McShitz, Pride of Ohio, and Black Ark, cops allegedly showed up before the bands even started playing and warned the club that another noise violation would result in felony charges. The Green Room has since been boarded up and fallen under the control of the Lakewood courts, who are not known for having good bands or cheap beer.

Word has it that ever-reclusive Prick mastermind Kevin McMahon will tour soon in support of Prick's superb second album, The Wreckard. McMahon has reportedly enlisted former Stabbing Westward drummer Andy Kubiszewski, among others, to back him on his first road jaunt since opening for David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails in 1996.

The North Coast Men's Choir, Cleveland's gay men's chorus, recently received a $10,000 grant from American Express Financial Advisors. That should have 'em singing pretty.

Promising Stow rockers the Lucky 13 Band have a new EP out with a big name attached to it: producer Jim Gaines, who was responsible for much of Carlos Santana's latest. "Broke Down" is available by e-mailing the band at [email protected].

Not since the Ramones graduated from Rock and Roll High School has the classroom been this entertaining: Local author Deanna Adams will teach "Cleveland Rocks -- Really!", a course on the history of Northeast Ohio rock, beginning November 12 at Lakeland Community College. Wanna own one of the those big guitars that dotted the city last summer as part of the Rock Hall's GuitarMania exhibit? Do us a favor and buy Mickey Hart's ugly axe, which is almost as off-putting as his music. You can bid on it and all the others this Saturday at the Rock Hall, beginning at 8 p.m. Go to www.guitarmaniaauction.com, if you can't make the event.

The Ohio Hystairical Musick Society, a cool group that documents and preserves local music (primarily of the punk rock variety), is looking for old band fliers, photos, and newspaper articles to add to its archives. You can contact the society at [email protected]. Then stop in at ohms.nu for pictures of sweaty rockers, sock puppets singing David Bowie, and ample proof that punk's not dead, though it could probably use a shower.
