A Cleveland-based turntablist who, according to his bio on his Facebook page, "thrives in obscure oddities," p. stoops, a contributing writer to Scene, digs deep into his vinyl collection for this EP. The disc starts off with "Wish We Were There," a tune that features samples of Hawaiian slide guitars paired with turntable scratches. It's a rather unique mix of sounds. The same goes for the twitchy "Baltimore Light Rails" and the atmospheric "A Deeper Understanding of Woodgrains," a song that's as dissonant as anything by Aphex Twin. The rattling "Paradise Lost and Found" features some great percussion and a steady stream of blips and bleeps. If there's a critique to be made, it's that the music is so geared toward headphones, it's not likely to work well on the dance floor. But we doubt that's really a concern for p. stoops. — Jeff Niesel
