Pat Dailey

Bakersfield has Merle Haggard, south Florida has Jimmy Buffett, and the Great Lakes have . . . Pat Dailey? Yep, Mr. Dailey's the Pasha of Put-in-Bay, but don't call him the "Jimmy Buffett of the North." Though he shares a few stylistic similarities with Cap'n Parrothead, Dailey's a lot wittier. In fact, he collaborated frequently with late author, songwriter, and cartoonist Shel Silverstein.

Furthermore, Dailey is no mere good-time Charlie. Though his album with Silverstein (Underwater Land) is an award-winning collection of children's songs, send the kids to bed, and Dailey unleashes the broadsides -- "I've Got to Be Drunk to Do That" and "Nymphomaniac (Perfect Woman)" among them, both ribald enough to give Bill Hicks pause. Plus, Dailey's cool enough to have Waylon Jennings and Bobby Bare Sr. contribute backup vocals on his Great American Saturday Nite disc.
