After a year between releases, several gigs under its belt, and a minor name change, PlanetKillSwitch has crept back to the surface. Whereas the band's last effort, Scum of the Planet, didn't balance the industrial and metal realms as well as expected, You Don't Matter flaunts a better sense of direction.

This time around, the Cleveland five-piece heads straight into industrial-flavored metal territory, reminiscent of Roadrunner and Earache's early '90s rosters. The electronics are downplayed, allowing dense guitar work and guttural vocals to stand out -- particularly on the opener, "Deviate." "Joyful Sound" takes a brief detour into goth-rock territory, and some of the later moments veer into tedium ("PE2012" gets mired in chunga-chunga riffs). But overall, PlanetKillSwitch displays a marked improvement. Warning: Rivethead scenesters expecting dance-friendly rockers should touch down elsewhere.
