Plastic Crimewave Sound psych-rock Big Black

Plastic Crimewave Sound merges droning psychedelia with a brutal bottom-end churn that recalls the rhythmic throb of fellow Chicagoans Big Black and the Jesus Lizard. The band's six-string squall meanders from Eastern-soaked downpours to atonal, Sonic Youth-style counterpoints — with occasional sheets of distortion thrown in for good measure. While all of this brings the group dangerously close to prog-rock territory, there's a dominant punk gene running throughout the music.
