It takes an Umojah Nation of seven to hold us back

Area reggae fans have a chance to hear one of the area’s most experienced and beloved local artists in the genre, and also one of its newest sensations, at the winter Reggae SunSplash at Akron’s Tangiers at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Veterans Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band headline, as they continue to showcase their 2009 release, Leave a Trail.

The following week, they’ll be heading out west to Ketchum, Idaho, to perform at the Marley in the Mountains Festival on February 26-27.

Openers Umojah Nation have been making their own splash locally with a sound that features the lead vocals of husband and wife Stefano Nguma and Tracey Aquart-Nguma, along with backup singers Stacey Eutazia and Ceco Salinas, lending the music depth and drama.

Tickets for the Sunsplash are $10 advance, $15 day of show. —Anastasia Pantsios
