Tim “Ripper” Owens will play his first acoustic show on Friday at Akron’s Tap House. He’ll perform as part of a duo with guitarist Scott Jones, his ex-bandmate from metal cover band US Metal.

Owens says the set will include songs he wrote with his various groups, like Judas Priest’s “Lost and Found” and Beyond Fear’s “Dreams Come True.” He’ll also play some covers, including a Lynyrd Skynyrd tune and the Johnny Cash arrangement of Nine Inch Nails’ "Hurt.”

“I want to have a couple beers and sing songs, something different,” says Owens.

The organizers aren’t actively publicizing the show, so expect a small gig filled mostly with family and friends, though the public is welcome. Music starts at 10 p.m., and there's no cover.

Ripper will also appear at Neil Zaza’s One Silent Night concert, performing two yet-to-be-determined Christmas songs with the guitarist on December 11 at the Palace Theatre. —D.X. Ferris
