The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has just announced that it will host a free admission day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, will feature live performances, education programs and family activities.

Visitors will also have the chance to win a Family Roller Rock Hall membership.

Acts such as the Latin fusion and Afro-funk group Timbara, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland (who’ll perform the music of Chess Records), Vernon Jones Blue Cartel and Project EM3, a group that features members of the Grammy-winning Dazz Band, will perform.

Selma, the 2014 film about that three-month period in 1965 when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition, will screen, and the Rock Hall's education staff will present three free classes, including “Ladies First: Women in Hip-Hop,” “Rock & Roll and the Civil Rights Movement” and “Cleveland Is the City.”

Visitors can also make their own protest signs and record oral histories of their Civil Rights and Cleveland music experiences with local recording engineer Ben Smith, who operates Collinwood’s Splice Cream Truck.

The Rock Hall will accept donations of hats, scarves, gloves and other cold weather clothes to benefit those in need.
