Jukebox Manifesto bleeds tried-and-true roots-rock tropes, but it's no recycled tribute. Leaning on a B3 organ, Justin Gorski fills the songs with blues, and Roger Hoover's rough, soul-weary tenor completes the old-time country crossover. "Inside His Devil Grin" barrels forth over a locomotive beat as Hoover bemoans soldier boys who come home in boxes. "Gewgaw Girl," in contrast, quakes like something recorded after a long night of drinking rotgut with Tom Waits. And Waits would no doubt find good company in the Canton troubadour.
