On It's About Time, Reed pays tribute to her late father, George F. Goslee, a Cleveland Orchestra bassoonist, who once gave his daughter a discarded violin and transcribed Beatles songs so she could play along. The violin stays in the background on this CD, as Reed's acoustic guitar plays front-and-center on songs that come off like earnest attempts at updating schmaltz like "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" The folksy It's About Time summons an innocent state of wonder as Reed's rich voice sings about flashing fireflies, laughing children, and a glowing moon. Good memories don't always make for memorable songs, but her dad's bassoon and Tom Turner's fretless bass help the tame, breezy tunes float by.
