"We've had so many really touching letters from fans that told us how our music has helped them through some rough times," says Simple Plan vocalist Pierre Bouvier. "Some girl had some of our lyrics tattooed on her arm, because her friend died and that reminded her of her. It was pretty crazy. We're so close to our fans, we get to hear the best of it."
Conversely, adorers of these plucky Canadians have heard no fewer than four singles from the band's 2002 debut, No Pads, No Helmets . . . Just Balls -- including the recent TRL smash "Perfect." "We're not the band that the media really loves, not the band who gets all the Rolling Stone best reviews -- I mean, most reviews of our record were crappy and kind of insulting. The people that we really care about are the fans that go to shows and buy the merch and have a good time and love the music and listen to it every day. That's what we're doing it for."
