Sound Advice

Ash lays it out for you.

Sound Advice
Apocalyptic industrial combo Filament 38 is all about darkening the dance floor with savage beats and harsh rhythms. Main man Ash keeps us in the loop on the best machine music.

What have you been listening to lately?

I've been listening to a lot of Destroid, Future Prophecies; Evil's Toy, XTC Implant; Agonoize, Evil Gets an Upgrade; and Tactical Sekt, Burn Process. I'm also looking forward to the new Godmodule CD and have been playing a lot of Grendel since their show here two months ago at the Phantasy.

Name five records that no self-respecting rivethead should be without.

I could only narrow it to eight:

1) Ministry, Land of Rape and Honey

2) Skinny Puppy, Cleanse Fold and Manipulate

3) Front Line Assembly, Tactical Neural Implant

4) Front 242, Tyranny for You

5) Leather Strip, Solitary Confinement

6) Wumpscut, Wreath of Barbs

7) Suicide Commando, Mindstrip

8) KMFDM, Angst

What records make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

Warm and fuzzy, huh? I would say pretty much anything by Delerium and Depeche Mode. A great Hocico scream and Evil's Toy's atmospheric strings also do it.

What albums are best for annoying the neighbors?

Pretty much anything in my collection, but when I want guaranteed pissed-off neighbors, cranking up Combichrist (rhythmic powernoise/techno) gets the job done. Combichrist ends up pissing me off too, but my tolerance is much higher than my neighbors'.

What other records piss you off?

Country, manufactured pop stars, carbon-copy bands -- 90 percent of what's on the radio.
