Sound Advice
The Grog Shop is a Cleveland institution, where everyone from Oasis to the Dandy Warhols has played en route to stardom. Owner Kathy Simkoff shares some favorites.

What have you been listening to lately?
Honestly, a lot of Mozart and Beethoven. It keeps my baby from crying in the car.

After a long, loud night at the club, what albums help you unwind?
I am still partial to Nick Drake. The Radar Brothers, Cat Power. Pretty music.

On the flipside, what do you like to play when you're feelin' feisty?
I recently bought the Lee Scratch Perry anthology. It's lots of fun!

You hear lots of developing bands before they break. Name some up-and-comers.
There are so many of these young bands that are getting big, I can't keep up. Emery, Hello Goodbye, all the Saddle Creek stuff.

As a club owner, you have to be familiar with a little bit of everything. What do you find particularly annoying?
Pure noise rock. I just can't understand what the appeal is.
