For the past several years, the Black Crowes have had more drama than The Hills. First, singer Chris Robinson did his part in the scruffy-rocker-marries-cute-young-actress sweepstakes. Then the band became a rotating cast of supporting musicians before finally breaking up at the start of the decade. Thankfully, none of the behind-the-scenes fuss surfaces on the group's first album in seven years, Warpaint — a gritty rock record that sounds more like the Crowes CDs that people bought than later bombs like Lions. It helps that Chris and Rich Robinson are once again delivering a potent mix of rock, blues, country, and folk in songs like "Wounded Bird", "Oh Josephine" and "There's Gold in Them Hills."
