The Lovely Feathers

With Dr. Dog and Spinto Band. Saturday, June 17, at the Beachland Tavern.

The Lovely Feathers
When it comes to delivering a stylish brand of indie rock these days, the Lovely Feathers are not all that different from their Québécois peers (the Arcade Fire, Islands, the Stills). They're quirky and charming, and they've perfected a pop-underground sound for the new millennium. Together since 2004, Richard Yanofsky (vocals-guitar), Mark Kupfert (vocals-guitar), Noah Bernamoff (bass), Dan Suss (keyboards-vocals), and Ted Suss (drums) look cute and sort of cuddly -- so much that your mom might like 'em too. Their infectious harmonies and snappy choruses showcase the band's bright, bountiful energy.

The debut album, Hind Hind Legs, was produced by fellow Canadians Jimmy Shaw (Metric, Broken Social Scene) and engineer Drew Malamud (Stars, Death From Above 1979). The 13-song set is reminiscent of those warm, fuzzy feelings generated by the first hearing of Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted. Get your groove on with the punk-rock ramble "Rod Stewart." Want more? Try pogoing around the room like there's no tomorrow on "In the Valley" and "Frantic." It'll do your body good.
