The action ignites Friday night with a kickoff party at Rain Night Club. Saturday features an all-day -- 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. -- music blowout at Scene Pavilion, with acts running the gamut from the "noir garage" of Rochester's Priests, the Brit-style punk of Cincinnati's Messengers, the catchy crunch of Columbus's Patsys, and locals including Boulder and Uncle Scratch's Gospel Revival. DJs will keep the tunes coming in between bands, spinning old soul, punk, surf, garage -- basically all the non-disco cool styles of the latter 20th century. There's also a "Vendor Village" hawking items provided by the event's various sponsors. Then at 10 p.m., the Harbor Inn harbors a tiki party with Hawaiian hoedown sounds from Austin's Ugly Beats. (Dig out your huaraches: Surf-sand glad rags get you free admission.)
Sunday revs up with a gang ride around town that starts at P.O.C. Scooters, in addition to a record swap and a screening of Quadrophenia at Modern World. The brakes finally get applied with a backlot BBQ at P.O.C. around 5 p.m. Yep, it's a bonanza for the formerly disparate cultures of heavy-metal hog lovers, suburban Polynesia, and Mod Italian movie theorists. Still, you can't help but hope for a good old-fashioned rumble.
