The Twilight Singers' A Stitch in Time features two of the last decade's great voices: ex-Afghan Whig Greg Dulli and former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan. And while Dulli steers the ship (more a rotating cast than an actual band), this EP sees Lanegan finally seizing more control. Transforming Massive Attack's bluesy "Live With Me" into a menacing dirge, the mercurial singer delivers his most brooding performance since the Trees' heyday back in the early '90s. And on his radical reinterpretation of Fat Freddy Drop's "Flashback," Lanegan shoots the electronica gem full of whiskey soul. Attempting to keep up, Dulli also reveals his dark side on several tracks, a welcome return to his Black Love form.
