This Is the Last Metallica Post Until October — Promise!

I know, I know. We promised you an hour or so ago that we weren't going to be posting any more Metallica-related blogs until October, when the band comes to Cleveland.

But I finally got a chance to play Guitar Hero: Metallica yesterday, a week after its release (those Rock Hall inductions kept me crazy busy all week). After the band's thunderous performance Saturday night, I needed something to keep me rolling the morning after.

The game (which I played on the Xbox 360, but it's also available for the PlayStation 3 and Wii) includes more than 30 Metallica cuts, plus a couple dozen others by bands they've either covered (Bob Seger's "Turn the Page") or ripped off (Motorhead's "Ace of Spades"). I got through maybe seven or eight of 'em.

Last year's Aerosmith edition of Guitar Hero was OK (who doesn't love rockin' a plastic axe on "Walk This Way"?); the Metallica version, like the band itself, kicks major ass. I was shredding something fierce on "For Whom the Bell Tolls."

Best of all, if you've got World Tour, you can hook up your drums, mic and another guitar, call over some pals, and totally make like the recent Rock Hall inductees. Can't wait till we finally get around to "One." —Michael Gallucci
