Tim “Ripper” Owens Recording Live Set on Saturday

Tim “Ripper” Owens will record a live set on Saturday at Akron’s Tap House for future release, either as a CD or as bonus tracks on an album.

Owens will perform as half of an acoustic duo with former US Metal bandmate Scott Jones playing guitar.

The singer, one of Akron’s favorite sons, says they’ll play solo tunes including “Starting Over,” “Pick Yourself Up,” and “To Live Again.” Also on the set list are Beyond Fear’s “Dreams Come True,” Judas Priest’s “Lost and Found,” and “Diamonds and Rust,” and, says Owens, “a ton of other goodies. Get your ass out. It is just so raw, it is real cool.”

The shows have become a staple at the sports bar, and at previous shows the duo covered Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” and John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

Also, Peabody’s announced a July 6 show by another one of Owens’ projects, Charred Walls of the Damned. Walls is led by Richard Christy, the former Death/Iced Earth drummer who set aside music for a role as a Howard Stern sidekick/producer.

Their new self-titled album splits the difference between power- and technical-metal. Owens’ wide-ranging voice provides a strong melodic element.

The singer says that concert will feature “the whole album and some other goodies.” —D.X. Ferris
