These Indiana rockers have much in common with their jam-band brethren: Their sets change from night to night, they let fans record their shows, etc. But their music comes from a totally different place. Instead of getting all noodly like the Grateful Dead and its disciples, Umphrey's McGee looks to prog-rockers like Genesis and Yes for inspiration. The sextet also tosses in some Led Zeppelin, Beatles, and jazz for good measure. A decade into its career, the band positively smokes on its latest CD, Live at the Murat. You can expect plenty of covers onstage, like classic-rock faves "I Am the Walrus," "Layla," and "Baba O'Riley" — all of which are converted from the originals into mighty showcases for the group's growing improvisational skills.
