- "Yo! Who dropped the casket?"
So much hype preceded Clipse’s third album, Til the Casket Drops, that when it finally came out in December, it seemed sorta underwhelming. Especially after the pair of mixtapes that were released in the three years following the Virginia-based brothers’ terrific Hell Hath No Fury. But skim off some of the club bangers, a few of the dope-slinging tales and the last third of the album, and Til the Casket Drops would make a terrific EP. The Neptunes once again produce a couple of the best cuts — “Popular Demand (Popeyes)” and “I’m Good” — and guest shots by Cam’ron, Pharrell and Keri Hilson keep things moving. But Kanye West’s appearance on “Kinda Like a Big Deal” shoves the album, however briefly, into something greater — a swaggering force of nature with style to boot. Malice and Pusha T are headlining the Clipse & Friends Present the Fam-Base Tour, which comes to the Grog Shop at 8 p.m. Tickets: $20. —Michael Gallucci (follow me on Twitter @mgallucci)
