Trey Songz rips a lot from R. Kelly’s playbook. He’ll sweet-talk you into taking your clothes off (the first cut on his latest album, Ready, is called “Panty Droppa”). He’ll boast about how he invented sex. And he’ll get all freaky till the breakadawn, annoying the hell out of the neighbors who are trying to get some sleep. What Songz won’t do is take himself too seriously (he probably won’t pee on you either). One of Ready’s best songs — the single “LOL:-)” — is pretty much a booty-call that’s all text and giggles. The 24-year-old Virginia native croons like Kelly, but he’s down with other horny superstars too (check out album closer, “Yo Side of the Bed,” which is filled with classic Prince squeals and thrills). Along with The-Dream, Songz is bringing some fun back to bedroom R&B. Sure, he wants to sex you up, but he wants to make you smile too.
