WJCU Radiothon Benefit to Take Place at Maple Grove on Saturday

To coincide with its 2015 Radiothon, which runs from Feb. 6 to 15, WJCU hosts a benefit concert that takes place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Maple Grove in Maple Heights. Though students aren’t compensated for working as DJs, the station still needs money to cover operating costs. "Once every year, WJCU reaches out to our listeners to ask for their financial support in the coming year," says Mark Krieger, WJCU General Manager, in a press release. "Like other college radio stations in the Cleveland area, WJCU provides unique musical programing alternatives and opportunities for diverse segments of the community to make their voices heard both on the FM dial here and all over the world via the net. And we do it 24/7/365 without receiving a dime of advertising revenue.”

This year’s concert features the thrash metal act Destructor along with Hostile Omish (pictured), Sunless Sky and Gatlin. Olathia’s Chris E. will MC.

"I'm really excited about this show!" says event organizer Bill Peters, adding that Destructor will debut its new line-up and that Hostile Omish will have its infamous butter churners in tow. "We've got a great billing this year. All four bands are headliners in their own right."

Admission is $7. All proceeds will be donated to WJCU 88.7 FM. Listeners can also pledge their support for the station either online at wjcu.org or by phone at 216-397-4438.
